Ik durf bijna niks negatiefs over deze film te zeggen. Iedereen is zo lyrisch hierover. Ik begrijp dat dit voor die tijd ontzettend knap gemaakt is. Alles nog zonder computers en al helemaal geen CGI. De setting en de sfeer is inderdaad prachtig neergezet en ook het acteerwerk is vooral van Rutger Hauer ijzersterk. Maar daarbij houdt het bij mij wel op met het positieve.

Het verhaal wist me geen 1 seconde te pakken. Eigenlijk als je van te voren het verhaal leest, weet je exact wat er staat te gebeuren. Maar op de 1 of andere manier weten ze dat zo saai en overdreven traag neer te zetten, dat ik echt dacht: "wat vinden de mensen hier aan?" Dan zie ik 10 keer liever Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) bijvoorbeeld. Maar goed, ieder zijn ding.

Dat ik toch een ruime voldoende geef, is puur voor de effort die er in deze film is gestoken en dat ze zo vooruitstrevend waren.

Ik ben deze ook alleen gaan kijken, omdat ik vooral heel erg benieuwd ben naar Blade Runner 2049 (2017). Dus fingers crossed dat die voor mij beter gaat uitpakken. We shall see.

Door de negatieve reacties, verwachtte ik echt een hele slechte film. Ik dacht dat deze nog slechter dan Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) zou zijn. Maar wat bleek, ik vond het best een prima film en ik had zelf niet zo heel veel moeite met de karakters. Alleen die jongen met die bril kon echt voor geen meter acteren. Maar ik vind bijv. het acteerwerk van Millie Bobby Brown (bekend van Stranger Things) helemaal niet verkeerd.

Dan het verhaal. Ook daar had ik geen moeite mee. Ik was juist bang dat het alleen maar om Kong en Godzilla zou gaan. Maar ze hebben juist een verhaal eromheen gemaakt. Dat gebeuren in Hollow Earth sluit juist weer goed aan op het vorige deel. Alleen hoe ze Kong overtuigde om dat te doen, sloeg dan weer helemaal nergens op.

De battle, ja Holy shit. Dat is waar je op hoopt en wat je ook echt dik krijgt. Prachtige beelden en dat i.c.m. de kleuren van de sky scrapers. Erg vet gedaan. Het einde is een beetje "Marvel weet het ook niet meer"achtig, maar alsnog pastte het wel in het geheel.

Ik hoop wel dat dit de laatste is, want ik heb ze nou wel echt gezien haha. Persoonlijk vond ik van heel de reeks Kong: Skull Island (2017) wel duidelijk de beste. Sowieso vind ik King Kong ook de gaafste Titan / Monster
