This one has been on my list for a long time, finally saw it today. Brilliant movie! I especially love the sets, the atmosphere and the way the future is designed. futuristic, but in a classic way.

Although it takes place in the future (a year from now ), LA looks like a run-down city. Dirt, vermin, dust... we see it all. This gives the film a very dingy look, and in combination with the lighting the whole film exudes a typical film noir atmosphere. Many beautiful images, with beautiful lighting.

I also think the music of Vangelis is very strong. Under a film like this one could easily have 80s beats, but the atmospheric music makes this film come across as very classic. Film noir, but the scene in the bedroom has an almost gothic atmosphere. The last scenes (the roof) give the film that classic look, with all those ornaments the whole leans towards a Greek mythological tragedy. The slow pace of the film also makes it all feel weighty.

Beautifully made drama, in a science fiction jacket.

Blade Runner (1982) combines recognizable elements with a future that was still strange in the early eighties. On the one hand, director Ridley Scott uses a classic framework (that of film noir) to give his narratively indeterminate atmosphere implosion a sense of direction. His smoke-shrouded view of Los Angeles is a bastion of perfect chaos. In this disorder you can get lost and then disappear. Virtual spaces reshape the industrial metropolis of Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927) and open the door to cyberpunk, an originally literary movement that Scott was one of the first to use in film.
