"Choose life."

Trainspotting tells the story of heroin-addict Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) who, together with his so-called friends, tries to give colour to everyday life in Edinburgh. Their lives mainly consist of drinking, going out, taking drugs and playing football. Due to various events, Mark decides to choose a new life away from his past in London. When one of his former friends, Begbie (Robert Carlyle), gets into trouble in Edinburgh, he seeks shelter with Mark. When the others also come to London, Mark picks up old habits.

Very nice reunion.

You notice that this film has set a lot in motion and that there have been some refinements to the style in the meantime, but Boyle's big breakthrough remains above all a pleasure to watch. Add Ex Drummer from Mortier and you have a wonderful evening of fun with marginals.

Visually it still looks fresh, a few brilliant roles, with Bremner leading the way, and of course the opening and closing monologue, culminating in the latter on the melody of Born Slippy. What a great movie moment that is.

The plot during the last half hour is perhaps a bit superfluous, because in the end mainly separate non-plot-related scenes can be counted among the highlights of the film, but it doesn't disturb either.

4.5* and a extended review

insane.

Big nonsense, of course, how energetic and eloquent this group of bad friends are portrayed, but it is contagious. Shamelessly glorifying, witty, fast and a handful of iconic roles, McGregor and Carlyle leading the way.

Soundtrack and editing wrap it all up perfectly. The film doesn't waste a second with one of the best openings ever. Lust for Life, voice-over, the fast switching of images and freeze frames that our anti-heroes introduce. In terms of music choice, this is a perfect example of how songs that don't affect me personally, can still be used effectively and give every scene exactly the right tone.

At times some stylistic wear and tear, as a whole it continues to work. Personally I prefer the episodic character of the first hour, but even the diluting effect of the last half hour can't keep me from the full swat. Maybe the final monologue (including soundtrack) will make it all right for me.

Unparalleled, appetizingly dirty immersion in the drain of 90's Scotland. Still 5*

After watching this movie 5 or 6 times in the last couple of years, I think I'll just leave it on the shelf for a while to keep it special. The reason I've seen it so many times is also that I often watched it with someone who hadn't seen it yet, and still had a great time with each rewatch. The heavy subject of drug addiction is sometimes brought lightly and comically here, and at other times it shows the real horror of it again. The story flows smoothly, all the characters are interesting and there are a lot of brilliant scenes. The dreamlike scenes where Renton falls through the floor after an overdose, or where he kicks the habit in bed, and the less dreamlike scene where they find the baby dead in the crib, are all parts of the movie that stayed with me for a long time after watching it. The scenes were generally shot very nicely. The film has a very nice soundtrack, including classics such as Born Slippy and Perfect Day, this is one of the better soundtracks.

A classic and one of my favorite movies, interesting story that is both tragic and comic with a lot of memorable scenes, almost as addictive as the subject, 4,5!
