Jamie Foxx's All-Star Weekend movie is still unreleased a decade after filming
Jamie Foxx's feature directing debut was shot in 2016 and has never reached an audience.
All-Star Weekend was written and directed by Foxx, who also takes several roles in it, and the cast includes Jeremy Piven, Jessica Szohr, Eva Longoria, Robert Downey Jr., Ken Jeong, Gerard Butler and Benicio del Toro. Barely any footage has been made public.
Three release dates have come and gone
The first was 16 February 2018, timed to land on the NBA All-Star Game. That slipped, and a second attempt in February 2019 was set against the following year's All-Star weekend. A further plan for 2021 also fell away, and the film went into production without a distributor and has not found one since.
In 2024, Foxx put the trailer up on his own YouTube channel, suggesting he might release the film regardless. The leak drew attention without producing a deal.
A fan argument between a LeBron man and a Curry man
The story starts from a rivalry rather than a team. Foxx and Piven play Malik and Danny, two tow-truck drivers who worship LeBron James and Stephen Curry respectively.
Their fandom is the total kind. If their man puts his name to something, they buy it, whether that is a pair of Curry Brand trainers or the bag of Ruffles LeBron fronts and the limited-edition Sprite that came out with a crown on the can.
The same rule holds on a screen. They play their man in every game that offers him, from a simple game like Basketball Stars to the favorite NBA 2K26.
That loyalty gets a stage when the pair win tickets to the NBA All-Star Game and set off for Los Angeles, where the trip is derailed by a woman with an agenda of her own.
Foxx points at the comedy market rather than the film
Speaking to CinemaBlend in 2022, Foxx attributed the delay to the state of comedy rather than the picture itself, saying the ground had shifted under the genre and that the aim was to get audiences laughing again first.
Reporting on the hold-up has centred on specific casting. Downey Jr. plays a Mexican character, and one of Foxx's own roles is a racist white police officer. Foxx has defended the decision by pointing to Downey Jr.'s turn in Tropic Thunder, while Piven has said publicly that audiences will never see the film because Foxx does not want to put it out.
No date on a crowded calendar
The contrast is sharp against a 2026 slate where studios are chasing another record year at the box office. A finished sports comedy with an Oscar winner directing and a cast of that size would normally have a slot somewhere in it.
Ten years after the shoot, All-Star Weekend has no distributor, no release date and no confirmed platform.
