Saw it yesterday and was certainly not disappointed. Unlike others, I do not find Christian's acting in this film outstanding, but he does portray a believable character. Otherwise, of course, it is excellent direction by master Christopher Nolan, who has previously created several gems (and would do so again).

The film beautifully portrays Batman's past and present, and naturally leaves the door open at the end for the next film in the 'trilogy'. I am therefore very certainly looking forward to it!

3.5*

A fine first installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. The film explains the origins of Batman with a relatively simple yet compelling story. The cast is excellent, featuring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Rutger Hauer, Cillian Murphy, and Ken Watanabe. I also didn't think Katie Holmes was as bad as many others.

Furthermore, it all looks good visually, with good special effects and the soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. A very entertaining film.

A straightforward hero story that takes itself way too seriously and unfortunately contains not a shred of humor. A lot of well-known names have been brought on board, but since they only have a relatively short screen time at their disposal, they unfortunately can't contribute much. And that despite the fact that they have long since proven themselves: Cillian Murphy, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Rutger Hauer, Michael Caine, Tom Wilkinson, and Liam Neeson... they are all more than solid actors. Apparently, Nolan's budget was on the generous side, but I find it unnecessary to invest it in a cast when they can add little to this simple good guy-bad guy structure. The action, with fairly average special effects and music by Hans Zimmer, also did very little for me. Okay, it isn't realistic, true to nature, or commonplace, but for a popcorn movie, it really needed a bit more spice, because I don't like sweet popcorn. Predictable, cliché-ridden, and moreover, just a bit too boring.
