“All you care about is money. This city deserves a better class of criminal. And I'm gonna give it to them!”

Still the perfect superhero movie. The Dark Knight is a brilliant middle part of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, in which Gotham City with all its colorful and damaged inhabitants comes back to life in a fantastic way. Featuring a new (old) antagonist for Batman, the maniacal, psychopathic and nihilistic the Joker, acted incomparably by Heath Ledger. Batman stands out sharply, but that's why it's so clever that Bale manages to hold his own and is not completely overshadowed by Ledger.

Nolan's direction is very strong and the script is ingenious. From the ominous atmosphere, the action scenes, the strong dialogues, the atmospheric score, the colorful characters and the great acting… Everything is right. There are many memorable moments in the film, but the bank robbery, the Joker's raid on Bruce Wayne's apartment, the Joker's pursuit of Harvey Dent, and the whole part where the Joker is in jail should definitely be mentioned. Also compliments to the likes of Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman who are all perfect in their roles. And Hans Zimmer's score tops it all off. The Dark Knight is 152 minutes of pure superhero perfection.

If there is one movie where the term “overrated” applies, it is this one.

Some may have been blindsided by the franchise, but man, man, man, what a jerk.

Storylines that are also simply forgotten, unbelievable events, that retarded batman voice, brrrr. And the "great acting" also escaped me. No really, total jerk.

And a lot of cars break down again and such.

I don't understand the success of this movie(s). On the one hand, they want to create a combination of The Godfather, Heat and The Silence of the Lambs, but with two clowns in the lead roles. Any hint of realism the film gets from the addition of mafia and terrorism elements immediately disappears as our bat man swings by in his chain-smoker voice and our crazy harlequin gets another giggle. There is acting, and there is overacting. Heath Ledger is guilty of the latter. Christian Bale to neither.

Moreover, it is simply criminal to saddle actors like Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman with routine roles that have little 'meat', while a glorified soap actor like Aaron Eckhart is allowed to overact half the time. Has become a bit quiet around him after The Dark Knight, maybe he finally discovered that he has other talents (flower arranging, maybe, or billiards) than acting. Not a single moment does Dent seem credible (until halfway through I thought he was actually playing a double role and secretly collaborating with the Joker, which turns out not to be the case), which means you don't spend a second with him either sympathizes.

Where Batman Begins makes the viewer curious about the sequel at the end, The Dark Knight leaves him feeling groggy. Not dull of emotion, but of the aimless violence that does not stop for a second. Just as the Joker has no motive, neither does this movie. There are so many movies I have yet to see, so I'll pass The Dark Knight Rises neatly.
