"Hollywood has a monster problem."
In the 1920s, three Minions travel to Hollywood to pursue their dream of becoming filmmakers. There, they discover a magical spellbook and accidentally summon monsters, causing chaos. Ultimately, the Minions must join forces to stop the monsters they themselves have unleashed and save the world.

Pretty nice. Mainly because the film largely revolves around the movie world and the many, many film references make this an enjoyable movie at times. The minions are also just a bit less hyper than usual, which is nice. And it remains impressive how they are still quite easy to understand with their gibberish (a mix of various languages) without subtitles. Roughly the last half hour is a bit too ordinary and really starts to drag quickly, but fortunately the running time is nice and short. 3.0*.

A decent installment in the series. The story is quite nice and a welcome change from the predecessors. The nod to 1920s Hollywood is very enjoyable, especially with the various references that pop up throughout the film. The pace is good, and the first part of the film is the strongest. The final section is a bit over the top, getting bogged down in Hollywood bombast, but it remains entertaining. The humor is very successful, with jokes for both young and old. A fine film for all ages. 3.5

It was entertaining and I did laugh occasionally, but you can tell that the Minion era is pretty much over. The charm is gone.
And is it just me, or is their vocabulary getting bigger, even though this film actually takes place many years earlier?
