"Wrong Time. Wrong Place. Wrong Number."

After losing his job and girlfriend, Slevin travels to New York. Once he arrives at his friend Nick Fisher's apartment, where he was supposed to be staying, he is "invited" to join The Boss. He sees him for Fisher, who himself is missing. And later that day, rival underworld boss The Rabbi demands his presence. This man also thinks he is Nick, who has quite a lot of gambling debts with both mafiosos. Still, Slevin decides to settle the debts, while the police try to make things difficult for him. The question is whether he will succeed, and who is the mysterious Smith who shows up at both The Rabbi and The Boss...

Finally got to cross it off my list. Never seen and always pushed out in front of me. Excellent crime-vengeance film in the mafia environment with a well thought out plot. Thanks to the excellent editing and flashing images, a film with a very high tempo.

Also never boring, partly because of the excellent actors. Mister Cool Bruce Willis does a great job, but I also thought Hartnett was ok. The dialogues were also excellent and made you pay attention to the film. A plus is also that the film contains the necessary twists and leaves out the punchline of how it all works. Some may find it predictable, but actually other scenarios could be played out. Beautiful!

A well constructed and put together story with a fairly luxurious cast. As a result, there was little to fault in the acting. At least this was Bruce Willis in slightly better times, with her. Too bad Willis is making a lot of mess at the moment; that has repercussions on how I looked at him in this film. I found the childish, sometimes even stupid, dialogues to be a real downside. If the intention was to bring some humor in the whole, then I don't think it succeeded. They could have made something better from the end of the film.

Revised after fifteen years. I like the film a bit better now than it did back then, especially because it doesn't seem so forced hip anymore. The balance between comedy and hard crime film remains a bit shaky, with sporadic bland moments and erratic acting, but the Usual Suspects-esque plot is cleverly put together and the film has an infectious energy. The impressive cast also helps, of course.
