Dit lijkt mij iets voor tieners. Wat een fauwe vervelende serie met een hoop enerverende generatie Z jongeren. Krijgt goede recensies, maar het enige dat ik er van kreeg was hoofdpijn, door al dat slap gelul...

This seems like something for teenagers to me. What a cheesy, annoying series with a bunch of annoying Generation Z youths.

It gets good reviews, but the only thing I got from it was a headache, from all that pointless rambling...

Niet verwacht dat deze serie zo slecht zou zijn. Het boek, de film en de remake waren allemaal een stuk beter. En zelfs die waren niet bepaald goed te noemen. Om te beginnen is de muziek echt afgrijselijk. Van de eerste tot de laatste aflevering worden stelselmatig de verkeerde songs gekozen. Ze marineren de hele serie in een geschifte tienersaus. Maar bovenal is het gewoon heel erg saai. Er gebeurt eigenlijk vrijwel niets buiten wat tienerdrama terwijl het verhaal zich richting de bekende finale ontvouwt. Toen ik doorhad dat de hele laatste aflevering aan de finale zou worden gewijd, maakte mijn hart nog even een sprongetje, maar die aflevering is zo verschrikkelijk teleurstellend. Zelfs de Carrie-finale hebben ze verkloot... Wat een amateurisme! De kills zijn veel minder spectaculair dan in de originele film. In plaats van onthoofdingen met vinylplaten wordt iedereen eenvoudigweg geëlektrocuteerd. In plaats van een afleveringlange slachtpartij hebben ze de scènes van het bal helemaal opgeknipt en er saaie dialogen tussengeplakt. Hoe verzin je dit zelfs? Hoe krijg je zoiets voor elkaar? En dat wordt hier nog op gejuich onthaald ook?! Het moet jaren, misschien zelfs decennia geleden zijn dat ik nog getuige was van zo'n zure anticlimax.

I didn't expect this series to be so bad. The book, the film, and the remake were all much better. And even those weren't exactly good.

To start with, the music is truly awful. From the first to the last episode, the wrong songs are systematically chosen. They marinate the entire series in a crazy teen sauce. But above all, it is just very boring. Virtually nothing happens besides some teen drama as the story unfolds toward the familiar finale. When I realized that the entire last episode would be dedicated to the finale, my heart skipped a beat for a moment, but that episode is so terribly disappointing. They even screwed up the Carrie finale... What amateurism! The kills are much less spectacular than in the original film. Instead of decapitations with vinyl records, everyone is simply electrocuted. Instead of an episode-long slaughter, they completely cut up the prom scenes and pasted boring dialogue in between. How do you even come up with this? How do you pull something like this off? And it’s even met with cheers here?! It must have been years, maybe even decades, since I last witnessed such a sour anticlimax.

Zo te zien scoort deze serie tot nu toe ietsje meer dan de bekende film uit 1976. Wat vindt meneer King hier zelf van? Ik vond deze serie in ieder geval gelijkwaardig aan de film maar scorend op verschillende vlakken. De sfeer uit de film wordt niet geëvenaard, maar ik vind de cast uit de serie beter, met name Carrie en Chris vind ik erg knap neergezet. De opbouw in de serie is ook wat uitgebreider. Het boek van King wordt minder goed gevolgd dan in de film, maar de serie is dan ook "gebaseerd op". Tja, ten tijde van het verschijnen van het boek (1974) waren de smartphones nog heel ver weg, maar los van dat: vooral de afronding wijkt af, maar geeft dan wel weer een opening naar een mogelijk vervolg. Vreemd stukje, het interview met de moeder, die trouwens wel veel leek op de Carrie uit de film (Sissy Spacek).

In any case, I found this series to be on par with the film, but scoring on different levels. The atmosphere of the film isn't matched, but I think the cast of the series is better; I find Carrie and Chris, in particular, very skillfully portrayed. The build-up in the series is also somewhat more extensive. King's book is followed less closely than in the film, but then again, the series is "based on." Well, at the time the book was published (1974), smartphones were still a long way off, but apart from that: the ending, in particular, deviates, although it does leave an opening for a possible sequel. A strange bit, the interview with the mother, who, by the way, looked a lot like the Carrie from the film (Sissy Spacek).
