Good film about a nurse who falls in love with someone she meets by chance. A love drama that is at times moving and also deals with processing grief. Beautiful locations, a nice soundtrack, and a pleasantly calm pace. Great acting and a fine lead performance by Margaret Qualley.

Don't choose to be unhappy. It's lazy, and it's harder!

First and foremost, I really think it is too soon for a film about the suffering caused by Covid. It just makes me think again of the people who set cell phone towers on fire, went 'drinking tea', claimed that none of it was real while my uncle lay in the morgue, that face masks wouldn't work and that quarantine was just nonsense. No, I haven't forgotten any of that, and as far as I'm concerned, all those people are simply finished, done, and if I never see them again, it will be too soon for me. I would give anything if they had all been slaughtered en masse and ruthlessly, because that is simply what they brought upon themselves.

Qualley plays her role quite well, but on the other hand, she is too much of a plaything of the plot and fate to make an impression. Schwarzenegger is nice to look at because he looks so much like his dad; he is a better and younger version, as he should be. And Keener makes a bit of an impression with her straw-like and unwashed Patti Smith hair—if there is anyone you would want to look like.

And yes, the images are beautiful, especially in Portugal, where the world seems to stand still and the story provides an interlude, an idyll in between. Of which we have all learned by now that, for the majority of us who experienced that period, it was nothing more than a distant dream, and that we are left with very different memories of that time. Yes, now we can go there again, that much is true.

Beyond that, it just kind of hangs in the air for me—if I had made this film in twenty years or so, I might have had a different feeling about it. As it is, it just stirs up things I can't place. Not now, and perhaps never.

The beginning is quite fun and the young couple has chemistry. After that, the film turns into a typical rom-com that offers few surprises. But the biggest sore point is that the new lover (that Brit) and Maya really have absolutely no chemistry. This causes the film to sag considerably, despite the nice visuals and the pretty good portrayal of a young millennial looking for her place in the world. The soundtrack is also nice. 3.0*.
