Dark Matter plot

Jason Dessen is a physics professor who lives in Chicago with his wife and son. He once had the potential for a brilliant career, but he put his ambitions aside for a happy and contented family life. One night, after being kidnapped by a masked stranger, Jason wakes up in a world where his life has taken a different turn. In this alternate reality, he is not married, has no child, and has achieved success in his career. He discovers that he has entered a universe where the interpretation of quantum mechanics is real and every decision creates a branching path leading to a nearly infinite number of parallel worlds.

Dark Matter season 1

Here is a big fan of the book, in which Crouch manages to develop a clever idea into a dizzying finale in an extremely ingenious way and with a good sense of dosage and atmosphere.

The series never reaches that level. It also seems to forget in the translation to include other audiovisual means besides the basic idea and relies too much on the story itself (perhaps precisely because of Crouch as frontrunner?) Logically I was no longer surprised by it, but the series adds little cinematographically.

Camera work and especially editing can even be called dull. Pacing issues sometimes get in the way of the tension. The concept of infinity is approached in an almost childishly simplistic way and it doesn't help that the uncharismatic Edgerton has a fairly generic face and can't get the most out of his double role.

I still find the basic material superior and the potential for film adaptation (perhaps an old-fashioned film instead of a series?) remains. But this was not quite it. Poor 3*
