Kin plot
A boy is killed. He was a member of the Kinsella family, a tight-knit small group of criminals. In revenge, the Kinsellas start a gang war with the alleged perpetrators: the international cartel led by drug lord Eamon Cunningham. The Kinsellas, who are by far outnumbered, have too much money but too few weapons, seem unable to win this war: their companies go bankrupt, and all family members and employees are looted. But they have what their enemies lack: the close, unbreakable family ties.

The Irish family drama Kin is in a way reminiscent of groundbreaking gangster series such as The Sopranos and Peaky Blinders. Or, because it's set in the now, Gangs of London. Where Gangs of London opts for choreographed explosions of violence and blood ballets, Kin is more subdued and woke. For example, atypical mafia boss Frank Kinsella (Aiden Gillen) is a brooding homosexual and it is strong women who take the reins.
Frank is the paterfamilias and tries to keep his drug empire afloat in a hard battle with Eamon Cunningham, played by the characterful Ciarán Hinds. Kin means family and Kinsella is literally pride. And that's what we get to see; Kin subtly zooms in on the tense family relationships. The result is a smooth and excellent thriller drama in the best Irish-British tradition.

I thought this was a very tasty series! A mix of drama, soap and crime. Looked great for me. On imdb I read all user reviews with criticism in them, I don't really get that. Yes: the criminals here are generally not very smart, but they have all kinds of human limitations, and I don't think that is very unrealistic. I really appreciated that the female protagonist turns out to be the smartest and develops in power.
