Seen now for the fourth time over the years, and I still don't understand why this needed a reboot. Plot, characters, cast, FX, tempo, Willem Dafoe as unpleasant villain, hilarious supporting role by JK Simmons, everything still top notch. At the most I miss the Marvel "meta-humour" (for example, when characters are relativized or ridiculed by the plot or by themselves, which happens much less here), but otherwise this is a decent and sympathetic superhero film, including the powerful mantra "With great power comes great responsibility" and funny little roles for Bruce Campbell, Octavia Spencer and an almost unrecognizable Elizabeth Banks.

I didn't expect this superhero movie to stand the test of time quite like this. And to be fair, the effects are certainly not Mother's prettiest anymore, the CGI Peter Parker is occasionally like a cartoon character. However, those are basically all the characters in this film. I secretly enjoyed watching all the extras and supporting actors play so stupidly over the top that it becomes fun. Those New Yorkers on the bridge - a scene that was put in the film after the September 11 attacks - are rather cringe-inducing, but if you pay attention all the extras are really idiotic. Take the moment when Peter Parker gets on the bus and someone throws a ball at his head, after which everyone is going crazy. The bullies, the businessmen, the audience at that balloon show; Raimi seems to have given everyone the direction 'do more'.

That direction was certainly given to Willem Dafoe and JK Simmons in two very memorable roles. It's a shame that Dafoe largely wears a stupid Power Rangers outfit, you should never hide such a head. It is a pity that with these colorful figures the main characters Peter, MJ, Harry and Uncle Ben and Aunt May are extremely dull and colorless. Unfortunately, in the sequels, the young trio gets more and more screen time with their love triangle. Then I would rather have wanted more Simmons, more Dafoe or more Bruce Campbell. Between these very nice and very dull elements is the action scenes and accompanying VFX: sometimes ugly and dated, but sometimes still very effective. Anyway, that Raimi knows how to make a camera move, we have known since 1981.

3.5 stars.

spider man

He may be on the brink of what has become the largest and most popular component of mainstream blockbusters today; the review of Spider-man mainly exposes the teething problems that pioneering films are often guilty of. Because even though Sam Raimi's trilogy, along with a handful of others, forms the revival of the superhero genre, the refinement is still far to be found.

In the midst of a lot of bombast (above choreography) the narration, both in terms of script and performance, cannot be caught on an ounce of subtlety. Strikingly outdated CGI, blatantly melodramatic platitudes, bite-sized plot and clumsy acting predominate and while it occasionally offers a catchy glimpse of the comic's origins, it never gets the space to rise above its flaws in atmosphere. .

Absolute clincher is the villain. Plainclothes already lavishly painted by Defoe; as the Goblin - even for that time - unforgivably ugly shaped.

Judging by my original voices, part two should master the refinement a bit better, but this one unfortunately doesn't leave much good after revision. The remarkably high score is petrified proof that it was experienced as a breath of fresh air in a dusty genre at the time; 20 years later it is difficult to see through the clumsiness and banality. 1,5*
