Phew, I couldn't keep it dry. What a good movie. In a film like this you really realize what it must have been like to be there at that moment. And the fact that in real life there was also a family that experienced exactly all this, that makes it even more impressive.

I absolutely disagree with TornadoEF5. You don't forget the misery of other people at all. The main characters come into contact with all kinds of other survivors and you can see that they were not as lucky as the main characters. You can also see in the eyes of the father and mother that they sometimes do not know what to do with the situation. They are relieved. But you also see that father on the plane looking at that note from that Eastern European that says 'we are at the beach'. And then he also thinks of his family and that they probably did not survive.

Five stars from me. No doubt.

A fairly censored Hollywood version of the tragic events of the 2004 tsunami. The disaster itself was very well portrayed. Pure madness how a meter high wall of water and mud comes at you at that speed. Spectacular images that you look at breathlessly.

After the disaster I thought it was quite dead (figuratively), but I expected the literal. Very few bodies to be seen. Later in the field hospitals you could see the human suffering. After that, unfortunately, there is too much focus on the sentimental and compassionate heroism, although the film still looked good. The balance between foreplay, disaster and aftermath could have been a little better, but all in all a decent film. Partly due to a good McGregor and Watts a narrow 3.5 *.

The 2004 seaquake was of course one of the worst natural disasters ever, killing more than 200,000 people, mostly Asians, but of course this film revolves around a Western family. Originally Spaniards, but apparently that is too exotic, so they have made it English.

For the rest, it's all pretty predictable, because the title actually gives it all away: Of course it seems impossible that the whole family will survive, but of course we don't have to worry. By letting all the main characters survive, we are left with a nice feeling. The misery is mainly something that happens to others, not us, which in my opinion does not do enough justice to all the misery caused by the tsunami.

Nevertheless, it is all played out by the book in an attempt to keep it exciting including mother who suddenly disappears, but in my opinion the film does not succeed in that, partly due to the hint of the title. And then it gets pretty tedious. Cinematically only seen one interesting scene: when mother is operated on, the flashbacks show how she manages to struggle up during the tidal wave. A nice analogy with the struggle to stay alive during the operation.

A missed opportunity in several respects. 1*. Incidentally, the film helps me with certain statements by a certain politician who tried to score politically over more than two hundred thousand corpses. How quickly we forget such things. Or at least me.
