The Italian Job plot

I still haven't seen the original, but this still remains a nice and fast action movie after review.

The story is extremely thin, but that should not spoil the fun. Always nice to see how masterplans are being implemented and how all the pieces come together. What makes the film strong is the impressive cast including Wahlberg, Statham, Sutherland, Norton and Theron. The last one in particular is incredibly fun here, in every way. After Snatch and The Transporter, among others, Statham performed his well-known type again, and would still do so many years later. Fine, it's made for him.

The Italian Job is the film that has given the Mini Cooper a slightly tougher image, instead of being utterly feminine. Entertaining scenes that are smoothly put together so that the film does not get bored for a minute.

Rubbish.

This film has absolutely nothing to do with the original, and none of its charm is left for this monstrosity. Yes, Theron brought her little face, and Sutherland is always a hero - especially in this part of Italy. But that's about all, and where I often like to see the work of a Statham, here it disappears without a chance under the pretension that is not fulfilled, the promise that is not allowed to receive an answer. I said it in the first word: junk, and that's it.

The Italian Job is a very slick heist movie. Everything is well put together and no risk is taken anywhere. Not so with the cast that is strongly represented. Great movie, just not very innovative.
