With the blush of shame

Yes, I know, actually it's too ridiculous for words that there are still so many classics that I still have to see today. Reservoir Dogs was one of them. As a child I didn't much like Tarantino's work. I seem to remember that a teacher once set up this film for the class, when I must have been about 15 years old. I found the film especially weird, because why was there so much talk and so little action? You made me happier back then with the new Mission Impossible.

Times change, and taste evolves, so I've had Reservoir Dogs on DVD for years without ever touching it. In the end still not because it is now on Netflix, but I'm glad I still have the DVD at home when it disappears from Netflix and I decide to review it one day. Terms such as ''timeless classic'' don't always apply, but in this case it certainly is. Of course the film is now somewhat outdated, but the excellent acting, unusual narrative, and more than a handful of iconic and strong scenes ensure that this is hardly noticed.

This film is perfect, there are (as far as I am concerned) just zero negatives.

Heavily underrated, low budget and violent.

Quentin Tarantino puts down a bloody, funny and above all focused film with minimal means. Where mr. Tarantino in later films sometimes seems to get a bit distracted by peripheral matters, this film is straight to the point.

The fairly standard whodunnit blueprint is taken to such a high level here that I seriously wonder if the bar this film has set will ever be surpassed.

The dialogues are brilliant at times and what is also striking about this film is how great the soundtrack is. Undoubtedly the best soundtrack from Quentin's euvre.

I never understood what people thought about this movie. It has the character of a very long-winded play, with endless dialogues where the characters are also constantly repeated. They have been framed, yes, we know that after saying it once. Then there are the necessary sadistic scenes that are not exactly uplifting. One point for the legendary scene with the song Little green bag.
