Detective William Somerset (Morgan Freeman) has seven days left before retiring. He takes on the newcomer David Mills (Brad Pitt) to work as his successor. They soon come across a number of gruesome murder cases that are linked by the theme of the Seven Deadly Sins. The duo regularly clash in terms of insight and approach. Every time I watch this movie (about 10 times now) I still get a knot in my stomach when it's over. This film really gets under your skin and that is certainly a compliment. From the first second, this film sucks you into the twisted world of a deranged serial killer.
Every now and then a film is made in which everything is right and this one definitely belongs in that list. The acting is phenomenal (both Freeman and Pitt) as is the screenplay and atmosphere.
This film is definitely in the top 10 in the list of "best movies of all time"!

Se7en remains a masterful thriller. All credit to David Fincher, who gives the film something gloomy and dark, which greatly benefits the story. The cinematography is gloomy and dark, and the nameless city is constantly raining. This is where the story really comes to life. Two detectives must track down a serial killer who kills people according to the seven deadly sins: gluttony, laziness, revenge, greed, envy, pride and lust.
The two detectives are played perfectly by Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt. Somerset (Freeman) is an old homicide detective who is nearing retirement and no longer interested in another murder case. Mills (Pitt) is the young dog who is new to town and eager to work on the new business. Together, they are eventually assigned the case and must go after the serial killer, who has been given the name John Doe. The chilling atmosphere will not let you go as a viewer and especially the last part with Doe, Mills and Somerset is incredibly well done. In terms of suspense, this is unparalleled, and the ending is gruesome and brilliant at the same time. Besides Pitt and Freeman, Paltrow and Spacey are also rock solid. Spacey in particular provides some goosebumps moments. To end in the words of Somerset, 'This isn't going to have a happy ending.'…

You'd say it's not that exciting anymore if you already know the ending, but that's anything but true, even after 3 times I'm completely into it. The whole setting is cool, there is a dark atmosphere, it rains constantly and there are cool dialogues in it. Each murder is shockingly portrayed, the film certainly doesn't take a step back and it certainly does it well. There is a good suspense in the story, and even some action-packed parts. The music behind it is dark and adds something extra to the atmosphere. While the overall movie will keep you entertained, the ending is the best part of the movie, very well worked out.
A deserved classic, and one of the best thrillers ever in my opinion, very well thought out and worked out, the dark atmosphere is something you have to be in the mood for, 4,5!
