Wonder Man (2026)

An original approach within the superhero genre.
The plot sounded interesting enough to give this series a try.
Nicely and quietly built up with well-cast actors.
I thought the cliffhanger was a great ending. Hopefully there will be a second season.

Marvelous?

After a series of mediocre or largely unsuccessful films and series from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wonder Man takes a different approach. Consequently, the series is not a superhero story in the traditional sense, but revolves around actor Simon Williams (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), who wants nothing more than to star in a remake of Wonder Man. When Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) crosses his path, an unexpected buddy comedy-drama ensues that doesn't always convince, but certainly has its moments.

Wonder Man is above all a satire on Hollywood, full of movie jokes and references for cinephiles. At the same time, beneath that layer lies a more personal story: that of an actor struggling with a career and a life that are not quite turning out the way he had hoped. The series is therefore also about friendship, loss, and the need to be seen and appreciated.

It is perhaps precisely that human side that sets Wonder Man apart from many other Marvel productions. Not everything works equally well and the series doesn't always find its tone perfectly, but when the humor and drama come together, there proves to be a surprising charm in this unconventional Marvel foray. We certainly don't need a superhero for that.
