Time and again I find it unimaginable how nail-bitingly exciting a film about a drummer and his teacher can be. Every time I watch the film I am on the edge of my seat, something that most thrillers and horrors fail to do, but this drama about a boy who wants to be the best at playing an instrument does. Whiplash is extremely intense. The film features two fantastic acting performances; from a credible Miles Teller to a phenomenal JK Simmons. What a role! Just as the students become silent when he enters the room, as a viewer you also hold your breath when he appears on the screen. His unpredictable nature makes you wonder what he's going to do and what's going to happen every scene. I kept getting chills from that guy, very well done. And also nice that he is not a one-dimensional character, which you would expect somewhere. No matter how many times I watch the film, Whiplash remains very fascinating and ridiculously exciting throughout its running time!

5 stars, no doubt.

What a great movie.

If we look at current events, it reminds me of the gymnastics coaches. They also had their own vision to make the gymnasts belong to the top. In this time 'not done'. There are of course differences. Physical versus psychological. However, the latter is more common than the former.

Terrence's method is abject. He is eventually judged on that and takes revenge that does not lead to the desired result.

A very captivating film with excellent acting. Both JK Simpson and Teller play unparalleled. Teller really plays drums here. Now I don't have a clue about that, but it looked very convincing.

Superb camera angle and movement.

Great pace in the movie.

A film that stirred up many emotions in me.

Andrew [Miles Teller] is an aspiring drummer yearning for recognition from his father [Paul Reiser] and therefore determined to become first choice in Terrence Fletcher [JK Simmons]'s jazz ensemble at the (fictional) Shaffer Conservatory. But Fletcher is extremely demanding and doesn't shy away from humiliating his pupils to the bone if they don't live up to his expectations. Andrew, however, is not easily discouraged and sacrifices everything and everyone to get Fletcher's recognition. The title refers to an extremely complex piece of music that Andrew bites his teeth into. Miles Teller trained for a few hours a day for two months to convince as a drummer and is amazing. Director Chazelle uses his personal experience to give the drum scenes an intensity and rhythm that heightens the drama. But JK Simmons is nothing short of mind-boggling as the teacher who can transform in a split second from a kind, patient man into a possessed, terrifying devil without ever falling into caricature. It earned him the Oscar for 'Best Supporting Actor'. It helps if you have some practical and theoretical music knowledge, but it is certainly not necessary.s
