After 20 years, revision.

A film that left deep wounds. Seen it once with school and have since hated these kinds of historical war movies. Also the boring mass fight scenes that made this film so famous.

Not much has changed in 20 years actually. Braveheart remains a ludicrous film that at no point can justify its running time of 180 minutes. With the footnote that technically there are now a hundred films that have done better on the so-called spearheads of this film.

Gibson acts like a wet mop, the romantic and emotional scenes are embarrassing, the soundtrack (with the same themes that is endlessly repeated) adds nothing at all (except extra corny) and the war scenes are boring. It's pure stuffing until Gibons finally has enough of it himself and then continues with the story.

Saw MacBeth this year, a much better example of how to put a movie like this on the big screen with dignity. This is really flat flour spread over 3 hours without a single moment that makes the film bounce.

0.5*

A good mix of ridiculous and slightly less ridiculous scenes. The characters know how to call man and horse. And we learn that an arrow through your heart doesn't kill you. Yes Mel, you're the only one for me.

Great movie...seen it dozens of times. But yes, I also have a soft spot for movies like this one.
