It took a little longer than expected for the response, but let's start with the positive.

That 0.5* was indeed exaggerated, the film is certainly not exceptionally bad. Jared Leto plays his part with verve, there is also quite a lot to say about Connelly and here and there there are still moments in the acting that almost goes towards good and interesting even . The music will never be my thing (just give me the Lust For Life intro from Trainspotting any day of the week) but even there, it was less annoying than in my memory and was even appropriate here and there.

But I'm afraid that most of the positive ends here, the editing is really not my thing (a little speed is welcome), Ellen Burstyn is for me really no more than an exaggerated caricature that offers zero added value to the film , I really had to laugh more than anything else at the times when she's sitting there pale with hardly any hair left etc, the other characters also make so many idiotic decisions that feeling compassion is something I can barely manage, all the "drugs destroy you" idea (I personally think it's a commendable idea because drug use also effectively destroys you in most cases after long-term use) is so exaggerated that it largely misses its message, style over substance thinks it way too often, while the substance is supposed to be the most important I think they should be in films with this subject.

I'll raise my voice, times three, because it's not a complete misfit, but it's my thing, to say the least, not and I'm afraid it never will be, like the other movies I've seen I got from Aronofsky by the way, Wrestler was the only one I really got some fun out of.

Beautiful film about a woman who gets the chance to be on TV and her son who is a junkie. The editing, the camera work and the music ensure that the film slowly gets under your skin (especially the fast editing when a shot is taken is well done). Pretty depressing in tone and as the film progresses it all gets more and more bleak. Ellen Burstyn stands out from the cast. As far as I'm concerned about the best movie about drug addiction.

intense, which the further the film progresses, the more intense it becomes.

especially the last half hour.

all the actors play their part excellently.

and so you see that drug use only causes a downward spiral and you end up going to shit..
