Guy Ritchie is, to put it mildly, not the most logical choice to plead for the Afghan interpreters who provided vital support to US troops under the assumption that they would receive a residence permit and a home in the United States in return. John Kinley [Jake Gyllenhaal] leads a unit in Lashkar Gah in 2018 and is skeptical about the role of interpreter Ahmed [Dar Salim] at first. Ritchie (surprisingly) manages to convey the development of mutual understanding convincingly. Ahmed saves Kinley's life, but while the injured Kinley is received at home, Ahmed has to go into hiding in his own country with his wife and child. Kinley does his best to pay the debt of honor by attempting to secure that promised visa for Ahmed, but is met with a wall of reluctance and bureaucracy. Gyllenhaal and Gah lend depth and dignity to the two main characters in this true-to-life war drama that proves that Ritchie can do more than make fun, airheaded crime comedies.

In any case, it is not a typical Guy Ritchie film and I mean that positively because apart from Lock Stock and Snatch it has not produced anything decent.

The film was certainly entertaining and entertaining, although I didn't really like Gyllenhaal. A bit miscast even, I think it would have been better with a different actor. He's a bit too metrosexual for such a role as a sergeant in the army, not dominant enough.

The other downside is that the Taliban are like computer game enemies. They are stupid, can't shoot and like to be shot easily.

But the action scenes are beautifully filmed, you feel yourself being hunted by the Taliban and that worked out well. Great movie for a Saturday night where you don't feel like thinking much with a bowl of popcorn on the side.

Well made action/thriller by Guy Ritchie, of which I can appreciate his latest films. I thought the setting and story were the highlight and certainly the acting of Jake Gyllenhaal and Dar Salim stands out a bit above that. Other than that, a good movie that never gets boring.
