A psychological drama about a love affair with a high “what if…?” degree. A thoughtful, nostalgic film with excellent acting, especially from Greta Lee. Remarkable autobiographical debut from director Celine Song.

Twelve years after Na Young [Greta Lee] left childhood sweetheart Jung Hae Sung [Teo Yoo] in Korea to move to New York, she discovers that he has attempted to reconnect with her through her father's website. She easily finds him via social media and the two meet up. Twelve years later, they run into each other again. Based on the director's personal experience and an unexpected success, even if it mainly relies on dialogue about the transience of life and love, letting go of the past and embracing the future and more of that kind of navel-gazing. I don't have much with that myself, but it will probably appeal to people with a romantic and nostalgic streak. The authentic, disarming game is definitely a plus.

Good film about a kind of love triangle. Feelings are always difficult. At one point you think the two Koreans are going for a relationship, at the other you think they are just kind of soul mates. You mainly get the feeling that he wants a relationship and that he still loves her after all these years. It was more difficult for me to understand her, but in the end you see that choosing her husband still saddens her. She keeps her strong for it (again that walk like 24 years earlier without saying anything, soulmates understand each other without words?) I am impressed by this debut film by Celine Song. Definitely a director to keep an eye on, although I think she is first and foremost a writer, but I think that leads to the very best films. Just think of Carpenter, McQuarrie, Tarantino,...
