Intense movie.

Much more intense than I thought. I have become a Zac Efron fan, which is also intense, much more intense than I could ever have imagined, but he is a good actor or chooses good roles that he performs well. He is very good in this film but he also did very well in The Greatest Beer Run Ever.

I'm not much into wrestling. I like the characters, they are always very over the top arrogant, the bad guy wrestler type. I always find the whole show around it beautiful to see. It really is quite a spectacle. I don't really understand the sport anymore. The winner has already been determined in advance? I don't understand it very well, but it is a tough life with many injuries. In my opinion, this sports film drama goes a step further than other comparable films. It's all very tragic and unnecessary. All for the sport or for the father who only believes in getting stronger and doesn't show emotions.

Good film, good films are still being made, I read elsewhere and that is also what I thought about this film.

Beautifully subdued, true story of the Von Erich family, a well-known household name in the wrestling world. Director Sean Durkin's observational, almost detached approach will not appeal to everyone and it does get in the way of sympathizing with the characters, but apart from that, this is a visually impressive, impressively acted film. The bizarrely pumped-up, almost unrecognizable Zac Efron is especially good here. Even though he looks like he walked straight out of The Incredible Hulk.

Zac Efron amazes friend and foe in the complex, understated role of Kevin von Erich in this tragic biography. Father Jack Barton Adkisson Sr. [Holt McCallany] made a splash as a professional wrestler under his stage name Fritz von Erich, but never got the chance to win the coveted world title. That is why he essentially forces his sons to win that title and is blind to the physical and mental consequences of his ambitions. Efron plays the eldest living son (the firstborn died when he was six years old), who tries in vain to live up to his father's expectations and protect his brothers. Efron trained extremely hard to build a huge bundle of muscles and trained with stunt coordinator Chavo Guerrero Jr. (who appears in the opening as 'The Sheik') to convince as a professional wrestler. A dedication that is strongly reminiscent of that of Robert DeNiro for Raging Bull.
