Ugh, what an unpleasant movie. It's just sad to see a once-powerful mutant like Charles Xavier reduced from a greatness to a nobody - who also conjugates the verb 'fuck' too often. That completely misses the point for me. It just doesn't fit. An R Rating? Fine. I have no problem with that, but use it effectively.

Of course it goes without saying that this story is rawer and the cheerfulness is hard to find. In this mutant apocalyptic future, there is little left but bitterness. We follow a worn-out and exhausted Wolverine, who most of the time stumbles through the frame, trying to hold his own. Kudos to Jackman; he is and remains Wolverine with a big core Logan. For me the only character with actual depth in this print. His decline, willpower and struggles were outstanding. It's certainly not his fault either; he carries the film.

But... another road movie, another special child to be protected, another Max Max-esque meets Midnight Special etc setting, another standard pack of bad guys and another boring, long-winded piece leading up to the predictable finale . I'm getting a little tired of it.

Knowing this wasn't going to be X-Men style, I was somewhat prepared. Yet my image of them is now screwed up and I hate that. To portray Charles so unworthy. Again, bah. To each his own, but it didn't appeal to me.

I don't like superhero movies, but if there is one franchise that is worth watching, then X-Men is a reasonable candidate because it is about something more than just good guys vs bad guys. The characters are certainly not so black and white: they are sometimes on the wrong side, but at other times on the other side and that makes them much more believable and interesting.

This sequel has a charged and gloomy atmosphere, but the action scenes are long and brutal. The dialogues are good and the acting performances of Jackman and Stewart are a big plus.

Great as a superhero movie, but 'okay' as a movie.
