It's been a while since I saw this one, and now it's my turn in the X-MEN series knowing that this is one of the lesser, if not the least, of the nine films.

The Wolverine has an interesting start with the Fat Man on Nagasaki. In addition, an error is immediately made there by wanting to show something that cannot be displayed. The bomb was dropped at a height of almost 10 km and detonated 500 m above the ground. To see the aircraft as low as this borders on nonsense and stupid ignorance. Then there is the very mediocre story with the so-called goodbye with the pierced card, and the denouement of the man in the suit. It's all unsurprisingly interesting. It's the totally uninteresting background, and all those interchangeable Asian characters, that do the rest. Just like the not very interesting Yakuza plot. Only Hiroyuki Sanada is recognizable again and acts soundly as always. Then there's the movie's running time, which is actually too long for what's shown, and the curious flaw with the chopsticks.

Is it all shit then? No that again. The violence and action is fine, as is the most interesting phenomenon of why Wolverine doesn't heal and lacks his nimbleness. Visually, some things look stunning, such as the snowy village at the end. Then the music is worth mentioning and Viper who I don't recognize as a character from the Comic but who is nicely portrayed by the Russian Khodchenkova. Exciting lady who is Viper.

It makes The Wolverine something entertaining, but certainly not something big. And it's again the love for X-MEN and the whole circus around it that gives me a higher rating than it deserves. So a three, where a two and a half would be more appropriate.

The Wolverine a film from the series that is extremely well represented in character by Jackman. Japan makes a great combination here. Very successful story which is based on this combination.

X-Men spin-off focuses heavily on the Asian market by starting with the atomic bomb drop on Nagasaki, with Logan/Wolverine [Hugh Jackman] saving the life of security guard Yashida [Ken Yamamura]. Decades later, Logan is tired of his life and longs to reunite with Jean Gray [Famke Janssen] in the afterlife when he receives an invitation to Japan to meet the now very elderly Yashida [Hal Yamanouchi]. Soon, Logan becomes involved in a family feud between Yashida, his son Shingen [Hiroyuki Sanada], and granddaughter Mariko [Tao Okamoto], making him a target of the Yakuza and discovering that he has received poisoning that affects his invulnerability. Jackman is good in a role that was right up his alley from the start, but the shallow screenplay and unoriginal story make this one of the weaker films in the X-Men franchise.
