By far the best film I've seen by Mr Verhoeven so far. RoboCop's script passed every major director, but everyone refused. And even Verhoeven initially did not want to make the film. In the wrong hands, the film could have easily become a dumb B-movie. In the hands of Verhoeven, Robocop became a masterfully stupid B-movie. Verhoeven comes with a portion of hilarious satire and even more fun rude action. The violence in RoboCop is brutal and fantastically over the top. The characters are all huge caricatures; from the corrupt tailor-made suits to the villains who only have an eye for crime. Kurtwood Smith is also very strongly cast. He auditioned for a tailor-made suit - and he would certainly fit there too - but got it from the gang leader. Not everything has stood the test of time (although I still find the stop motion very charming myself), but the violence, humor and satire are timeless.

4 stars.
