Still a strong film with an underlying moral. How far can you go to get rich and popular as a lawyer before your conscience and your wife hurt you? If you know someone is guilty, do you defend them?

I know very little about law as I am still young and slightly reckless and, moreover, I am scientifically inclined. Still, I found the number of real court scenes rather limited. I really wanted to see Reeves win. You see a certain snippet of the case to congratulate him on his win in the next scene. OK then? That shows a moderate effect, especially for this playing time. It should have taken a little longer than that, because I often found the court documents the most interesting.

Despite that, there were few other negatives for me. Maybe outside the end. It's a bit anticlimactic and yet it's not. I find it a difficult one. Now good for the rest I have been fascinated by Al Pacino and Reeves. It took me a while to realize that Charlize Theron was Reeves' wife, but oh well. That's me, not the movie. Intriguing film with interesting dialogues and once again strong acting.

There's more to this movie than you might think. Nor is it a court film in the strict sense of the word. In Devil's Advocate, moral issues and choices determine the course of the story until the end and that produces wonderful dialogues. A vain young lawyer is hired for big money by one of the world's richest law firms run by one John Milton. He moves to New York with his wife, but his life does not take the turn he envisioned. As a viewer you are drawn into a gloomy story with an unpromising view of humanity. Whoever sees the film for the first time does not expect that fantasy elements will suddenly appear in it. It's not the devil pulling the strings... everyone makes their own destiny... Free will, it's a bitch! Reeves was allowed to be there, even if he pales in comparison to Al Pacino's charisma. Theron still quite modest in one of her earliest roles; Still a fun movie to watch.

Masterclass overacting.

Pacino, I mean naturally. This is already the case in most films, but here it really does take off. Fortunately, that fits reasonably into the plot and therefore it doesn't really irritate - and true anyway, then there is also the beautiful speech that Pacino is allowed to deliver. And also some lesser known but very nice quotes throughout the film.

Opposite to Reeves. The contrast could hardly be greater, on the other hand, the role he plays also demands a bumbling romper. With a decent actor it wouldn't have worked as well as it did now. Still, he is irritating, as always. Then the many supporting roles are more fun - Theron's comes first by itself, nicely done.

What is a pity is that if you already know the punch line, part of the power is lost. And perhaps also, which I have often noticed with classics from this period, that I have started looking at films more critically. I can't seem to find this a masterpiece anymore. But a nice video.
