“Lisbeth. I want you to help me catch a killer of women.”

Strong film adaptation of Stieg Larsson's first book (Men Who Hate Women). The film follows the book fairly faithfully, although some parts of the book are left out and the ending is completely different. You can send David Fincher a message and here too he strikes the right tone. It is dark, chilling and the tension under the skin is palpable throughout the film. That's also because of Trent Reznor's ominous music. Craig and Wright are good, but the main character in the book is of course Lisbeth Salander. And Rooney Mara plays her in a formidable way.

Mara is young, small and petite, but she also radiates strength and determination. And that corresponds well with how Salander is described in the books. Unraveling the mystery surrounding Harriet Vanger's disappearance can be tough for a movie, but Fincher manages to keep it captivating with a brisk pace, visual flair and clever editing. Skarsgard also plays well and is allowed to show his acting skills especially in the last part. As I said, the ending of the movie is very different from the book, but it doesn't disturb it in any way.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a film with an interesting story and well executed. Atmosphere and acting more than fine. Definitely a good movie despite the long running time.

Why would you want to film the truly excellent Millennium trilogy is the question. Hollywood logic will be the answer to that. Fortunately, it is outsourced to a director who is able to give a qualitative twist to the film, and fortunately, because this Fincher film is practically not inferior to the Scandinavian version.

Having said that, it should also be said immediately that the film has nothing new to offer, so it can of course be called predictable, perhaps that it is all the more clever that Fincher manages to turn it into a catchy and exciting whole. . We know Blomqvist and Sallander, the Harriet Vanger case is known, as is the opposition and the mystery with the perpetrator that will follow. Yet Craig and especially Mara know how to give it their own identity and the atmosphere woven by Fincher can be called excellent, just like the tones of the soundtrack that will quickly be recognized as a Trent Reznor product for the ear. And the cast is worth mentioning, Craig and Mara I already mentioned, but Van Wageningen, Skarsgard, and certainly Plummer, are worth mentioning.

Downsides...? Mwoah... the denouement as far as Harriet is concerned is just a bit better in the Swedish version, so it feels rushed as if that would take too much effort. Moreover, it is always a plus that Swedish is actually spoken in a film that takes place in Sweden with Swedish characters, but besides that The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo can still be called more than a great film and I still wonder why this part has not been followed.
