An accumulation of implausibility laced with technological nonsense and various exotic locations; Formula work cannot get much more clichéd. In the beginning I still felt entertained, that must be said, but gradually the interest waned, also because it takes much, much too long. Especially in the last half hour, the limits of the ridiculous are amply exceeded: the fight for the briefcase in that car hall was about the lowest point (that whole badguy anyway, what does that mean, wanting to die to realize a nuclear war? ?).
Part 1 still had a certain atmosphere, this is just uninspired performing stunts with Tom Cruise. If Mission Impossible has to represent the flag bearer of the action movie, then the genre is even worse than I thought.

They remain funny action films, those Mission Impossibles; I always mix them up a bit in my head. Notice that I never really know what order they're supposed to be again, they all feel a bit interchangeable with each other; whether you're talking about Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation, or a Fallout. Doesn't really matter either, because the fact that they are entertaining is paramount. The idea is also pretty much always the same; a team goes after a rather boring villain with all kinds of technical gimmicks. Heaps of tapping laptops, exchanging USB drives and hard drives and driving around in luxury cars. A nice pace, slick appearance and often a bit too long. Simon Pegg will provide the humor, Tom Cruise will do memorable stunts. The most implausible scene in Ghost Protocol is when Simon Pegg has to convince Cruise to climb the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. More realistically, Pegg suggests that they should stick a MacGuffin in somewhere, but halfway through his sentence Cruise has already scrambled out. Because Cruise likes to do crazy stunts. Even that is a recurring element in a franchise, which is actually mainly filled with recurring elements. But as long as they are executed well, I have no objections.
3.5 stars.
