Compared to the predecessors more of the same, albeit that Philip Seymour Hoffman does add some extras as the unscrupulous villain. Even now, the film has to rely mainly on the macho and the outlandish actions. A scene like the one at the skyscrapers of Shanghai is actually too bizarre for words. Gradually, the "Mission: Impossible" series is starting to look more and more like a video game. Not exactly my thing.

Mission: Impossible III

With this third installment, the Mission Impossible franchise has completely turned into an action blockbuster with unprecedented stunts, fight scenes, chases and a Tom Cruise who feels like a fish in water like Ethan Hunt. And of course beautiful women, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg. Where in the first part the emphasis was still on espionage and where behind every tree stood an enemy, friend or both, this third part focuses on action, which the fourth and fifth parts are also known for. And there's nothing wrong with that if the action and stunts look so slick and the movie is so entertaining to watch. But by only mentioning the action, you do the actors short. Cruise is great of course but Rhames and Pegg are also excellent. Together with Rhys-Meyers and Maggie Q, they form an entertaining team and the mutual chemistry explodes from the screen. Monaghan is solid as a "love interest", but the relationship between her and Hunt does not really want to sparkle. And of course, with Philip Seymour Hoffman as the bad guy, it can never go wrong. What a hero!

With locations such as Rome, Vatican City, Shanghai, Berlin and California, this third installment also looks beautiful and the cinematography is very strong. JJ Abrams can send you a message when it comes to action and suspense and you can see that here. This third part radiates from all sides that it knows what kind of film it wants to be and also pretends to be nothing more than an incredible action adventure. And if it is also executed so well, you as a viewer can only sit back and enjoy.

As far as I'm concerned, the worst MI movie (I haven't seen the latest one (yet). A concatenation of a lot of over the top action, but there is no string to tie. Mind at zero entertainment gets a new dimension with this, you don't need to see it for the script. If you don't set this one up for the action, it's almost impossible to get through. 1*
