At the moment it is not really clear whether Craig will appear in the next bond, but so far I think this is his best bond film. He goes back to the raw version of Bond, hard, cynical and ruthless. Craig can also terrify anyone with a very cold look, which I think is a very good choice. In this film he gets beautiful counterplay from Mikkelsen and good support from Wright and Giannini. The female lead remains in my eyes, as so often in a Bond film, below par, certainly a beautiful woman, but in this print she acts below par and that undermines my rating otherwise it might have become a 5.

It remains clear that this is a sublime Bond film, which relies on the actors and not on the special effects and stunts, the latter are breathtaking by the way. I own the entire Bond collection, but this is one of my favorites.

The characteristic features of a bond film remain with me, the humor and beautiful women, the spectacular action and a nice story about a charismatic villain who threatens the world.
Mads Mikkelsen seems to fill that villain role nicely, but at some point is pushed aside.
The story could not really captivate me anymore, (unnecessarily complicated) the casino scenes were the highlight but the action around it was not very impressive, the speed of action scenes (fast camera movements that are sometimes hard to follow) has been a favorite of mine for years. eyesore and seems to be a mix between ( look how fast I am and trick to make it all more spectacular ) .
Bond movies used to be movies with a wink and humor in the action , it was not taken all that seriously but still it was exciting and spectacular .
All that has been replaced by harder action and grimness , and a vague plot centered around terrorism and money , the character also takes himself way too seriously and there is very little to laugh about .
In this part the feminine beauty is also far from imposing, she radiates little femininity and is also arrogant at times.
No, give me movies like octopussy, the man with the golden gun, or even Moonraker, they did have the Bond vibe.

Watched this movie again, but this time in the context of the whole Craig cycle. And Casino Royale only increased by a 0.5 point, because no 6 stars in total can be given. In the 70's I totally adored 007, but unfortunately that became quite less in the 80's. The 90s with Pierce were again very meritorious, but the 5 with Craig from 2006 brings my 70s feeling back. peerless!! There are very few movies that turn me upside down, let alone series, but Bond won me over again.
