"Sean Connery is James Bond 007"
James Bond urgently needs a rest after years of service. But just when he wants to take it, 'M' calls on him again. Crime organization SPECTER has hijacked two American cruise missiles. Within seven days, the ransom must be placed on the table, otherwise the missiles will be detonated. 'M' brings James Bond back from the health farm, where he was sent because his physical condition was failing, and instructs him to save the world.

Sean Connery reprises his role as our great British hero in a remake of Thunderball. So it's not an official Bond, but it tries to be one through gadgets, witty comments and a beautiful Bond girl. It's just not all that easy. Connery does seem very old and the action is also very tame.

I am a fan of this “unofficial” Bond film in which I continue to hold Connery as a Bond actor in high esteem. The film itself is also pleasant to follow with some excellent scenes. The opening scene is somewhat reminiscent of the Bond film , which also starts with a drill on Gibraltar (forgot the name).
Also entertaining with the hospital and motorcycle scene. Kim Basinger may not be the most memorable Bond girl, but she is very beautiful. Bitter young too. Largo is also excellently played by Brandauer, as is Von Sydow for the other villain. Also a nice one-liner from Connery here and there. The soundtrack is a bit salty, but it doesn't bother me with Bond.

Old fellow Sean Connery is indeed still in good condition and a lot more masculine than his successor Roger Moore. We are less than 5 seconds away when tough Sean is already throwing a solid punch. Kim Basinger and Barbarra Carrera are hot Bond girls and Max von Sydow is the best Blofeld. Only Brandauer as Largo is a bit effeminate and doesn't seem very threatening. Carrera reminds me a bit of Femke Janssen's Xenia Onatopp, another strong and sexy femme fatale. What this film lacks, of course, is the typical James Bond theme song and some familiar faces in the roles of M, Q and Moneypenny. I think there was also a lower budget available than for Octopussy, which came out in the same year, but this Bond film is a lot better and feels more 'back to basics'.
