The criticism at the time was that it was too much of a standard hard action movie and too little a real spy movie. He certainly wasn't standard with a very impressive number of never-before-seen stunts. Otherwise, just look again at what they do with those planes, trucks and so on. They've just been a little crazy about completely igniting anything where even a cigarette was left burning. But otherwise all well thought out and fairly smoothly told despite a long playing time. The only thing I don't like is that face that explodes. A Bond film also has to appeal to a bit of a broad audience and they move away from that even more here. A bit strange is also that Felix Leiter is played by a completely different actor here than in Living Daylights.

Very funny jokes here and there too. That horn of that statue on the wall, for example, or that X-ray with Q's device.

Carey Lowell is beautiful and has the prettiest figure of all Bond girls as far as I'm concerned. Moreover, a much nicer role than most ladies (she also plays a cop and then you get more to do, as we saw with The Spy Who Loved Me). Unfortunately, not seen much of it, apparently she has worked a lot in TV productions, as with many Bond girls has continued the career.

More impressive than Davi, who is very convincing, is actually made by the young Del Toro, who was not known at all at the time. Then there are the locations: the palaces and the temple (as a cover) of Sanchez are impressive, but there are no real exotic trips.

All in all, a very satisfying Bond film.

Still the best Bond movie ever made!

The louder tone that is turned on,

with Timothy Dalton by the way

a strong actor seems to be working,

the lighter tone of the past

with Sir Roger Moore

came across with too little tension.

even though Sir Roger Moore was a good James Bond.

This movie is full of suspense.

The cast is rock solid, Robert Davi, Benicho Del Toro

I think everyone plays their part with conviction.

Finally a good story

with a lot of excitement and full of cool stunts!.

Timothy Dalton himself is a mega strong actor

who was very good as James Bond.

Unbelievable that I gave an unsatisfactory mark during the last review of this film, about 6 years ago. In my opinion this is one of the better Bond films with another strong Timothy Dalton.

License to Kill is by far the grimiest Bond film yet. The movies with Daniel Craig are a bit over the top, but until then this movie, especially after the Moore movies, is very hard and full of hard action. There is not an ounce of humor, but with Dalton as Bond that is not a problem, he does not master it at all. What he does master is what you get as a viewer, namely a nice hard revenge film. In terms of script, this is not a typical Bond film, he is really acting here in a personal capacity rather than on behalf of the British government.

What is nice is the large role that 'Q' is assigned. The villain, in person of Robert Davi, is not a complicated personality. He has set a simple goal to earn as much money as possible as a drug lord. The fact that the necessary people die is not even an unpleasant side effect for him. Convincing and ruthless role by Davi, who takes the film to a higher level.

A film with hard-hitting action, mind-blowing stunts and a Dalton in top form. My doubts about him have been completely dispelled, too bad more Bond films haven't been released with him.

Point increase, more than sufficient.

3.5*
