One of the most exciting movies I've ever seen. Even after a 3rd viewing.

No, no exaggerated gory stuff, or ghosts or whatever horror effects, but pure old-fashioned, edge of your seat tension.

Both the unparalleled acting of both (Caan & Bates, because many more characters are not involved), and the perfect timing/direction of Rob Reiner contribute to this.

Kathy Bates in particular plays a fantastic role here as a crazy, obsessed fan of her favorite writer. Even though you sometimes see the scary moments coming, the film continues to surprise scene after scene. Every time I tried to escape, I sympathized with Paul Sheldon. I remained glued to the image for the entire playing time and every scene is an added value for the structure of the film. The whole thing never feels predictable or long-winded.

Nice, very clever work by Reiner, just like Stand by me (also a film adaptation of one of Stephen King's books) a gem. Still very curious to see more of his works.

4.5*, with high rewatch value time and time again

Pure enjoyment of these kind of movies.

“I just wanted to tell you I'm your number one fan.”

Great horror classic. I've read Stephen King's book many times, and the film perfectly reproduces the book's ominous tone. This is also due to the phenomenal acting of Kathy Bates, who beautifully portrays Annie Wilkes, a woman who looks friendly but increasingly turns out to be a psychopath. The interplay with the hypothermic James Caan is perfect, and their scenes together are a joy to watch. The suspense is to die for, and the scenes with Caan trying to escape, and the scenes with the local Sheriff, stand out.

Super Strong Top shelf Kidnap Thriller!

Incredibly strong acting performance from Kathy Bates! wow! Crazy, funny and sometimes even charming. Annie Wilkes is a very unique character that will haunt my memory for a long time to come! James Caan of course also puts down a very strong acting performance!

What also makes the film very interesting is the relatively small amount of characters. It keeps the film clear and puts even more emphasis on the 2 whoppers carrying the film.

The tension is unnerving and keeps you by the throat every minute of the film, making you almost forget to breathe every now and then....

Wonderfully crazy and sadistic film!

A well deserved ☆5.0
