This is certainly an exciting film, but the comparison with Seven and Silence of the lambs as I regularly read here is not entirely valid. This film falls short in many places. The plot is very thin, the acting should not be in the shadow of those from Silence of the lambs and Seven, but what I especially miss is the psychological effect of the perpetrator. As a viewer, you don't get to know anything about his motives.

In that respect, this film should really rely more on the grossly elaborated scenes than it is an intelligent thriller like the two aforementioned films.

That doesn't take away from the fact that I found it very exciting and that the film could certainly continue to fascinate. Indeed, there have been very few really suspenseful thrillers coming out of Hollywood lately. But Saw really doesn't get more than a good average.

Throwing this one in the revision again and it remains a strong thriller. Probably the best part in the series too. The only thing that I don't like is the mediocre acting performance of Dr. Gordon and also the less successful make up work (his powder white face) after he loses a lot of blood. I really liked the plot twist at the end, during the first viewing anyway.
