as a movie buff, I see myself obliged to watch all widely highly rated films (read: highly rated in the IMDB top 250), even if I wouldn't initially. this film was also part of that, and when it came on TV yesterday I decided to watch it.
I had great difficulty seeing through the ravages of time, much now feels quite stale. the acting is very bad, the low point is the 'falling' of Fisher and Ford in the scene that moves the surface of their plane (which turns out to be the stomach of a sock puppet) . the great Yoda behaved like a Muppet. I also squinted at that unnecessary roar/yelp of Chewbacca. the humor must be brought by the robots with their english accent or bleep, because unfortunately it didn't always have its effect. in the beginning, where the story is introduced lyrically, I almost laughed; so childish.
luckily I was less bothered by that during the film, then you go along with the situation. if you empathize with it enough, it's fine. before that time the special effects and the way of storytelling will have been great. the legendary music and the many legendary sayings spring you up often enough. the story, especially as a trilogy, is of a mythical form and probably one of the greatest fictional narratives in the world (look how many Wikipedia pages already exist in Dutch!). Rarely are there films that are still so present in society 3 decades after dates, because no matter how you look at it, Star Wars is more than a series of films. but that's really all hindsight.

I watched the movie with those contradictions and that's how it ended. as a film I did not find it as impressive as expected, but as a film lover I also have respect for the milestone that these film(s) occupy in film history.

I regard episode 4-5-6 as a whole and will formulate only one opinion about this triptych. More than 1-2-3 (the growing up of Anakin) these episodes tie together nicely in one flowing movement.

Star Wars is pure nostalgia for me. I am very frugal with 5.0* and this is only reserved for films that stay with me and touch (or have touched) me in one way or another. I'm not an adept and you won't see me at premieres or in crazy outfits. Yet not a week goes by that I don't think of Star Wars or make a link to it, sometimes through an inside joke, sometimes just for a few seconds ... Star Wars is more than a movie, some would almost call it a religion

Almost everything is perfect in this epic: the costumes, the decor, the great story ditto music, the dialogues, the characters and extras (Darth Vader alone: Wow!), the fantasy, drama, tension, the ending, originality, concept ... Simply sublime! Like many others, I've reviewed the series (mainly 4-5-6) countless times and you simply know many dialogues by heart, yet this one continues to fascinate again and again, it never gets boring. You can only take your hat off for something like that.

Episodes 1-2-3 (especially the first two) are a lot less in terms of story, 7 was a disaster (a shame really). Episode 3.5 went on the better tour, but 4-5-6 remains inimitable despite being over 30 years old.

Very strong sequel. I'm watching the Star Wars movies now for the first time, this movie is better in everything than the part before.
Maybe it's because I'm a bit more used to all the characters and characters now, but I notice that the chemistry between all the protagonists, including 3-CPO and R2D2, is perfect.
The role of Ford is getting better and better and especially the scenes with him and his friend Chewbakka can't last long enough for me.

It also all looks a lot better. Still not eye-catching, but at least better than in the first film.
Such an attack by the Empire on the planet Hoth is immediately a strong intruder, with which you really feel the threat and the strength of the enemy.

Memorable is of course the scene between Darth Vader and Luke. I can really feel that I never immersed myself in this film series for even one second, because I really didn't know that Vader was actually Luke's father. It feels now, especially when I read all the comments here like I've been living under a giant rock all these years.
Still, I'm very happy that I never read it anywhere, which makes the surprise all the greater.
Anyway, Darth Vader is a great villain, really in everything.
I am very curious about the closing of this trilogy, for this film a big four stars!
