Excellent and gripping war film. You can follow the war quite well up close and they come across quite realistic. I've been watching a lot of war movies lately and this one with a few others was "head and shoulders" above the others. It is going fast, the hardness and brainwashing are also well visualized in the training center for marines.

Fortunately, there are also fun and comic parts and that should be, otherwise you would not choose to become a marine. I used to be in a pretty strict section in my military service but to be honest, these Americans are a bit harder in training.

The film gets a small 9 from me!

It's a huge shit sandwich and we all gonna have to take a bite...

One of the best Vietnam movies, a very cynical one. I've seen and reviewed a lot and I've been drawn into it every time. In this diptych you are first taken into the brutal fighting of the navies, in which they are brainwashed into killers. One is not made for that, however: Lawrence, better known as private Pyle. You can see that he is in fact a good and good-hearted person who does not fit in there at all. It all ends badly for him . In military language this is called natural loss, in moral terms it is called a wasted life.
Despite the Vietnam setting, the second part is less intense than the first. I would even dare to use the word "inking" for a moment. Joker is now a war reporter for the army. His training, however hard, does not prepare him for the unglorious reality. The soldiers understand that it is a lost cause and that their days are now all about survival.

Drilled to be the hero for the homeland, then abandoned and forced to survive. For those who pay attention: the film is not stripped of dark humor, especially in the second half... The "born to kill" helmet of Joker and his "peace spider" sum up the whole film in my opinion. That contradiction of "waging war for peace", as if both are reconcilable. Full Metal Jacket is and remains my favorite Kubrick.
