De moderatie schijnt te denken dat ik de film niet heb gezien. Goed, bij deze dan nogmaals op veler verzoek mijn mening over No Other Land 
Zoals reeds opgemerkt een saaie, eentonige documentaire die het eenzijdige verhaal verteld van de bewoners van het dorpje Masafer Yatta. Een deskundige, een antropoloog of historicus die de Israëlische-Palestijnse kwestie komt duiden ontbreekt. De argumentatie is meer van het gehalte trust me bro. Oude herders die vertellen over hoe de familielijn teruggaat naar 1830. Een Britse landkaart uit 1879 die de claim van de Palestijnen kracht bij moet zetten. Context over de kwestie die speelt wordt spaarzaam gegeven. Er zijn wat beelden van de belangrijke rechtszaak maar het Israëlische Hooggerechtshof is nu eenmaal hun rechtbank niet wordt er dan snel bij verteld. Alsof de feiten er niet toe doen. De propaganda beelden van angstige en huilende kinderen en boze soldaten moeten het werk doen. Het maakt op mij geen indruk. Het is clichématig en de schokkerige bewegingen van de handcamera zijn op den duur irritant. Op een gegeven moment kijk je geloof ik secondenlang naar de achterkant van iemands jas.
Gelukkig is er nog de vriendschapsband tussen de Israëlische en Palestijnse filmmakers. Het maakt het kijken van de docu nog enigszins dragelijk. Een beetje spanning tussen de te enthousiaste Yuval en de gelaten Basel die het lieftst de hele dag waterijp rookt.
Een Oscar? Een gotspe.
