Emmerich is back.

Has probably already had his best days as a director, because Moonfall is very much like a case where the director is in a midlife crisis. It makes absolutely no sense. Whoever thinks that it only stays with the ridiculous title in terms of content, is also wrong. It's much more stupid here.

Still, I have to say that I can hardly compare this film with Emmerich's other disaster films. Early on there is a much darker tone. Humor is still there, as are very typical characters for these kinds of films, but it is being scaled back. Darker in look, a little more serious too. In the second half, however, it takes a more supernatural direction.

What can help the film are the brilliant special effects, something Emmerich always knew how to handle. And now it's even more technically advanced. Clear computer violence, but oh so detailed and beautifully portrayed. However, the effects themselves regularly take over, because after some time it is still difficult to judge how much Emmerich is still doing.

Weak in content, but really completely ripped off the pot. Actors can do little with the roles and it is mainly the path that is eventually taken that hits a pig like pincers. And yet it is all taken so seriously, I can actually only laugh about it. Emmerich himself probably too, because after some time we finally get to see the extremely spectacular final and it looks great.

It's probably not what you think it is, but the movie makes it way too hard on itself. It is already difficult to make a blockbuster about the moon falling on the earth that is also believable, but this goes very far. Nevertheless entertaining and in terms of effects absolutely Emmerich. I did think he used to be a lot stronger than the works he still delivers now.
