Reasonable Dutch production around the events of the Bende van Oss.

A bit of an image of us knows us, a powerless police apparatus, the necessary settlements and many dark streets and dirty alleys as we know from Peaky Blinders, is nicely presented. Just like in the series, the average stupid things happen from accidents, self-interest, backbiting, conspiracies and wanting to flee the situation, to the usual pressure and collapse. In this case, the focus is mainly on Hoeks' attempt to get out of the world with the necessary setback.

Many well-known actors known from series, a Dutch production so the necessary sex but striking that it is not very vulgar, reasonably acted, especially Hoeks is nice but Lammers is also convinced, but the most important thing I think is the time frame, certain backgrounds with the NSB, Rost van Tonningen, the evil role that the Marechaussee would play, the prelude to WW2 that can already be clearly heard in people's feelings, and the aftermath of the 'scandal'. Entertaining and reasonable movie, but that's about it.

Looked again last Saturday and I only now saw that it is not that bad at all. The film looks visually beautiful; the old factory, the dingy workers' cottages, the ghostly mists in the forest. Oss does have the name of course. Even then, but still now. St. Willebrord in West Brabant also has more or less a similar reputation, although Willebrord is also seen as a cycling village. Brabantian isn't very good, but it didn't really bother me, I've heard it worse.
Theo Maassen as corrupt police officer Van Schijndel, has just the right head for that haha.. With Theo Maassen it is always one of two: whether he plays a soft-boiled egg (Minoes, Het Geheim) or a sneaky villain (Zwartboek, TBS).
Anyone who thinks they will see a film about the history of the Bende van Oss, which incidentally covers a period of almost half a century, will be somewhat disappointed. That story takes place in the background. This is about café owner Johanna van Heesch (Sylvia Hoeks) who wants to get rid of her violent husband, whom she has liquidated with the help of the accountant and consigliere of the gang Harry den Brock (Frank Lammers), with all the consequences that entails.[ /spoiler]
As a whole, it doesn't really come across as Brabant to me, it's more like a Brabant seen through the eyes of a Dutchman, although the director is a Brabanter, strangely enough.

Johanna van Heesch [Sylvia Hoeks], a young woman whose husband Ties [Matthias Schoenaerts] returns from prison after 2 years and is increasingly entangled in the web of intrigue in her hometown Oss. The most important pivot in the criminal organization is Wim de Kuyper [Marcel Musters], but the influential factory owner Sal Hedeman [Pierre Bokma] and accountant Harry den Brock [Frank Lammers] also play key roles in the syndicate. The culture of silence creates a status quo until guard De Vries [Thomas de Bres] refuses to turn a blind eye. What follows is a series of incidents (with liquidations, embezzlement, intimidation, rape, pedophilia and betrayal) that follow each other so quickly that there is no room for character deepening or for tension building. Van Duren and co-screenwriter Paul Jan Nelissen therefore take too much on the fork and it might have been better to opt for a television series.
