Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was born on July 9, 1956 and is an American actor and filmmaker. Hanks is one of the most popular and recognizable movie stars in the world. Mainly because of his comedic and dramatic roles. His breakthrough came with lead roles in the comedies Splash (1984) and Big (1988). Hanks won two Academy Awards for Best Actor for his role in Philadelphia (1993) and Forrest Gump (1994).
