Dragnet dates from the time when Hanks was still almost entirely doing comedies. And Aykroyd is of course the big man of SNL and The Blues Brothers. This duo will not be as strong as this last duo was, but that is mainly due to the silly jokes. Reasonable.

Disappointing film in which a cop gets a new partner. The plot is not interesting at all and the humor is rather bland. The right tone is set with the music and the voice-over. Even the dry approach of Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd does not save this film,

It's been quite a while since I've seen this one, but seeing Dragnet in a period when I didn't get to vote at all, I completely lost track of the film.

The reason I was interested in this is obvious: Dan Aykroyd and Tom Hanks in one film. The former has played in a number of very nice comedies in the 80s (including Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers and The Great Outdoors), while Hanks belongs to the absolute top in the film world in my opinion. Although my expectations were not sky-high, I secretly expected a bit more from this. I was hoping for some more laughs. I was definitely not bored.

The film actually fits in well with the other comedies that Hanks made at the time. The humor is on the bland side (something that not everyone will appreciate), but the typical 80s atmosphere that the film exudes makes up for a lot. As expected, the chemistry between the two protagonists also plays an important role in Dragnet's entertainment value. It's not much, but it's an entertaining snack. It provided me with exactly what I needed during that busy period: a nice movie night. The fact that the film in question fulfills almost all possible clichés leaves me cold.

3*
