The documentary does the man justice. Despite his fame in the early 1990s, he remains so humble and kind to his fellow man. An example for everyone. The documentary beautifully captures his journey to fame and how a mask hid the pain of his past from the outside world. His family and many of his closest friends and (former) colleagues speak, interspersed with plenty of archive footage. This makes the documentary a joy to watch, and will ensure that I open another can of "Candy" soon and introduce the kids to an improvisation legend.

A beautiful documentary about the comedian John Candy, who died far too young, but still managed to build an impressive oeuvre in his short life. Family, friends, and colleagues are given ample opportunity to speak, and there's a wealth of hilarious archive footage. Director Colin Hanks, who never knew Candy, and whose father, Tom, naturally made a few films with Candy, strikes a beautiful balance between humor and melancholy. And Macaulay Culkin unexpectedly delivers some poignant moments.

The widow and children of actor John Candy, who died in 1994, and colleagues reflect on the life of this beloved film star, who struggled with self-esteem and the untimely loss of his father. The title refers to Candy's famous monologue from Plains, Trains & Automobiles, in which he (apparently) exposed a part of his soul. A one-sided ode to a gifted actor who deserves (re)discovery.
