The first time I saw the film I didn't understand what some others find so difficult about the film, why they can't follow the storylines and therefore drop out. I thought it was a wonderful sequence of beautiful images, supported by a fantastic soundtrack. And I like movies that show the interconnectedness of everything and everyone. At Cloud Atlas it is so beautiful that all those fate lines of the main characters are connected. 6 beautiful stories in themselves that together form a nice big story. A film that never gets boring, that I can easily watch more often and that I can enjoy again and again.

Not my thing. The game 'spot the actors in a different setting and with layers of make-up' quickly becomes tiresome and distracts from the story. In addition, some philosophical voice-over is occasionally used, which is too difficult to follow if the image continues. And yes, sacrifice and the evil that men do, well, that's not really new either.

I already thought Tom Twykwer was a director who is more form than substance (Der Krieger und die Kaiserin, Lola Rennt), but adapted to Hollywood there is not much left.

Like I said, not my thing.

2.5 star

Special movie. Usually I don't like to switch between stories and certainly not of multiple layers with time and future. But I thought it was a very fascinating and captivating film.

It remains a guess as to what exactly is meant by the story, its many characters and storylines. It is undeniably about 'doing good', yet most of the characters are also free fighters, people who stand up for themselves and search for the truth, but I think it has something to do with reincarnation as well. What is certain is that they all influence each other in one way or another in development and choices.

Tragedy, sadness, love, sacrifice, regret, redemption, it all passes by and as a viewer it is nice to discover the returning actors every time. Hanks is particularly witty as a writer's tokkiehork, and Weaving, of course, at his best as a nurse ratchet. Genius makeup in that sense.

Nice film, great entertainment, mainly for people who don't like simple and maybe think differently about things.
