Oregon Trail Scouts plot
Red Ryder fights the unscrupulous fur thief Hunter for the right to capture beavers and otters on Chief Running Fox's lands. Hunter tries to ambush Ryder and his friend 'Bear Trap'. When this fails, he kidnaps Little Beaver, the grandson of Running Fox and kills the judge with whom Little Beaver was staying. But Little Beaver manages to escape. Ryder's aunt "The Duchess" shows up and she tries to persuade Ryder to return east with her.
