Halloween coming up soon so I enjoyed re-watching the first two movies.

Actually, this one is more exciting than part 1 because of the more oppressive setting (a fairly deserted hospital during the night), the higher body count due to a higher tempo (where part 1 was a bit slow in the first half) and even more emphasis on the indestructibility of the game. Michael Myers, who is kind of a precursor to the Terminator (and further from the Chuck Norris film Silent Rage). The murders are also a bit more brutal this time.

Curtis and Pleasance are also back and getting some more space. Interesting denouement too: Laurie turns out to be Michael Myers' adopted sister.

In Halloween II, the illusion that living in a suburb is synonymous with safety and security continues to crumble due to Michael Myers. The masked apparition is raging again. Halloween II begins with a replay of the closing scenes from the first film and then shows the resurrected Michael Myers roaming the suburb's front yards and quiet streets in search of his favorite murder weapon and more victims. A myth is definitely born.

Halloween I raised an interesting question. How human is Michael Myers really? At the end of Halloween I, Myers seemed to possess supernatural abilities. In this sequel, Dr. Loomis (again wonderfully played by Donald Pleasence) speaks clearly about this. He doesn't consider Michael Myers to be human. Maybe Myers once was, but that qualification no longer applies. According to him, Myers is the personification of the deepest fears that live within ourselves. He is a supernatural personification of the black part of our subconscious. Not pleasant to be confronted with and very difficult to destroy.

The film has become more violent and explicit. The zeitgeist (1980s) also demands this. The direction of Rick Rosenthal does not differ much from that of John Carpenter. The atmosphere is there. The setting is lovely. The film is mainly set in a hospital where surprisingly few staff walk around at night. Not to mention patients. That desolation and the spatial boundaries are well used in the film to make the atmosphere wonderfully dark and oppressive. The psychopath and his victims then complete the picture.

Halloween II is a nice slasher.

Halloween 2 is a great sequel to the success of part 1. The tension and the story fit well and the whole is extremely entertaining.
