CAZ will air all Bond films with Sean Connery in the coming weeks, so that's the ideal chance to finally catch them all. In any case, I was pleasantly surprised by this first part. I've seen about half of the series now, and it's often hit or miss. But I suspect I'm going to appreciate Connery's run more. dr. No is basic, uncomplicated, focused. There are no lengthy action scenes, and Bond for once does not travel around the world at lightning speed. Jamaica as the only location works very well and produces beautiful images (the film hardly looks outdated anyway, good quality). What I especially liked was that here there really is the feeling that you are looking at a spy, and not at a one man army/superman. Connery is übercool in the role, stylish and funny. Building up to the bad guy, the titular Dr. No, who only appears for the first time towards the end, is also really well done. dr. No may disappoint as a bad guy, but hey, no Bond film without a cheesy, one-dimensional villain.

The ending might drag a bit, and some of the familiar Bond elements aren't there yet (Q..), but for the rest I thought this was a pleasant experience.

Watched again last night. And actually, this is quite a good film that immediately puts the character Bond on the map. I can imagine that a movie like this was quite revolutionary at the time. Very nice to watch. A little cheap here and there. Especially if you look at the acting style at the time. But we really like it.

And finally watch all the James Bond movies! Which I've wanted for a long time, but never got around to it. Of all the parts I have only seen one and that is Casino Royale. I like that one very much! Now it's time to look at them all in chronological order. Even if it's a different story every time and a different actor every so often, but that doesn't matter. I always want to start at the beginning.

dr. No is a wonderful movie. There are a lot of moments of rest and I always like that. It's an old movie so I like that look and atmosphere. Sean Connery is a real hottie. I can keep looking at that. What a charisma and beautiful head. Fortunately, there is still enough to enjoy after this.

Some moments feel a bit clumsy when, for example, someone is hitting, kissing or talking, but that's what you get with a 1962 film.

I'm curious about the rest. Anyway, this was a very nice start. Not great, but entertaining.
