“The box, you opened it, we came.”

The greatest strength of Hellraiser is the fantastic atmosphere that director Clive Barker manages to create from the start. Ominous, suspenseful and sometimes bloody, the make-up department deserves all the prizes for their fantastic work. And the actors all know how to play it well, with Robinson, Laurence, Higgins, Chapman and Oliver Smith all joining in on the madness. Hellraiser exudes craftsmanship, originality and love for the horror genre, which is how I like to see it.

What a wonderful movie this is!

Totally unexpected, by far the best horror draft nomination of nominations I've seen so far. U96 showed me a real topper here, there is little to criticize about this film.

This pretty gross and dirty movie shines with its nice and dirty designs, both the "Cenobites" and the gore in general look pretty good. At first I had my doubts as I hate it when characters (in this case the mother) act like a bunch of idiots without being magically noticed by the people around them.

All this is more than made up for by the wonderful horror that is actually fully featured. Maybe the lightning bolts that come off the box look a bit clumsy, the rest of the gore comes out strong and very well into the picture.

The attention in the second part remained full, Laurence is a cute appearance and Barker steals the show as the one and only "Pinhead". Every scene with the Cenobites is a joy, the horror is top notch and you won't be bored anywhere. This is a great video, I'm very excited about it.

Hellraiser

I've never seen this classic before, but I started it anyway and it didn't disappoint. Of course, taking into account the fact that this film was made in 1987, so the special effects were not very special then. Still, some scenes looked pretty good and creepy. Glad I finally caught it.

3 stars.
