Hellraiser: Hellseeker plot

"Evil. Deadly. Immortal."

Trevor is happily married to Kirsty (known from the first 3 Hellraiser parts). During a trip they get off the road by car and end up in the water. Trevor tries to save Kirsty in vain. When he wakes up in a hospital, he suffers from the most horrific flashbacks in which a sinister person with a skull full of needles seems to have a hand in it.

Mwha, it is slightly better than part 5, but I wouldn't call it really good at all. Actually wanted to stop at part 5 because there is a clear decline in the series, but there is a slight progress here.

This part again suffers from the lack of atmosphere or any kind of relationship with the earlier parts. Pinhead becomes a laughing stock, does not bring any 'charm' anymore, it becomes a boring and meaningless character.

The story is an improvement but unfortunately it doesn't get any better than a semi-psychological thriller that demands attention by carrying the name hellraiser. The many 'daydreams' of the main character are enough after 2-3 times, they thought differently because you get thrown around them.

At times also quite boring with the occasional 'okay' part in between.

They always try to put you on the wrong track, that is often only half successful and if it succeeds, it is nothing worth mentioning. Will just completely forget about this in a week.

It doesn't really succeed anywhere but it is less annoying and simple as its predecessor (part 5) and therefore deserves a very narrow 2.5 *

What's Hellraiser about this anyway? Not only is the complete feeling and atmosphere of the old movies missing, but Pinhead also seems to walk around a bit lost when he comes into the picture every now and then. The whole story is quite confusing, because things keep happening that turn out to be different shortly afterwards. Fortunately, there was a buddy sitting next to me with whom I could make a lot of lame comments, but I wouldn't have to think about watching this alone. There is a lot of hassle to get to the climax and you can tell from everything that this script was not intended to be a Hellraiser. It just doesn't work. Especially if the main character is also a dick with fingers.

When I thought back to the Hellraiser straight to video sequels, I couldn't really tell them apart. That is not surprising, because Hellraiser: Hellseeker is practically the same product as Hellraiser: Inferno. Director Rick Bota was seemingly tasked with doing the exact same thing after Hellraiser: Inferno. So once again an unsympathetic main character gets all kinds of strange Jacobs Ladder situations, after which he witnesses a cameo from Pinhead at the end. Still, Hellseeker had an trump card; the actress from the first two films Ashley Laurence could return. However, she proved difficult to find, but eventually she was found. The result; a mini-supporting role by Laurence and thus a mini-reunion for Pinhead and Kirsty, where most of the footage ended up on the editing floor.

So with both Doug Bradley and Ashley Laurence in cameos, the stage is practically all set for Dean Winters as our unsympathetic main character. Admittedly, he's a little more likable than Sheffer in Inferno, but he's still a dick with fingers. He cheats on everyone, although that is not so difficult if all the ladies in your area can invariably take off their clothes. Probably because this is a Weinstein production. Winters then constantly experiences strange things, sees a Cenobite appear here and there and finally it is explained what is going on. Hellseeker is another dull script and one of those movies that you probably won't remember after a few days. After a while I will only remember this film as 'that remake of Hellraiser: Inferno with a few seconds of Kirsty Cotton and a rather fat Pinhead'.

1.5 stars.
